weekend and Jeff Oleen was poised and ready to be another one of the FDJ Army to bring home a win at the four-tenths mile short track.
On his second race weekend with the fresh motor from Billy Banks, Oleen felt very confident of his chances after being very quick in Friday practice. Unfortunately, qualifying has always been somewhat of a stumbling point for Oleen and that continued to prove true as he placed 20th in the starting lineup for the first race.
As the first race was well underway and Oleen was already making moves towards the front of the field he encountered some troubles in the form of a broken shift lever. Fortunately, Oleen was already in fourth gear when the part broke so it only became an inconvenience on restarts. But through hard work, determination and some help from his spotter Kevin, Oleen was able to charge back through the field on his way to a seventh place finish in race number one.
"The shift lever breaking made the restarts real tricky for me but I got real lucky through the fact that I was already in fourth gear when it happened," said Oleen between races. "If I didn't have a car and motor combination like this I don't know if I could have had as strong a finish as I did."
The second race was a bit more eventful for Oleen due to the way the car changed after the first 100 laps of the night. After starting inside the top ten, Oleen had fallen to just outside the top ten in the 12th position but began to fight back in the late stages of the race, bringing home another solid top ten finish in eighth.
"I was hoping to get a bit more out of the second race since we had a way better starting position but the car just wasn't driving the same as it was in the first race," said Oleen after the race. "But we're definitely showing signs of improvement and I can't help but thank Frank Deiny and the rest of the team for all they do for me each week."
